Suesdai! Short and sweet getaway with my lifetime best friend, no I should consider her as a part of the family (sister) already. Special thanks to Pich Punleu (Cambodian) for you care and kindness in showing us around the whole time.
So, I'm gonna talk about Cambodia in 4 different parts.
1. Phnom Penh
The capitol of Cambodia, where you'll meet the friendly sellers (at proper stores/stalls), weirdest fruit box (almost everything is unripe), explore in-trend Container Night Market which has only been operating since a month ago (beers, seafood barbeque, Khmer food, clothes etc), feed thousands of doves at the Royal Palace, and maybe learn the story of Khmer rouge rule of Cambodia at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
2. Angkor Wat
Largest religious monument in the world, UNESCO World Heritage Centre; where you'll find amazing handcrafted buildings and walls that were built in the early 12th century. Sadly the entrance fee has been increased to 37USD since March 2017 (which has been 20USD for the past 10 years), but it's still definitely worth paying a visit.Main temples are:
1. Angkor Wat
2. Bayon
3. Ta Prohm
4. Baphuon
5. Banteay Kdei
6. Phnom Bakheng (sunset at 6pm, be there by 4pm as they give out limited 300 passes to go up to the temple)
3. Pub Street
0.50USD for a glass of Angkor or Cambodia beer?! Yassss it is 0.50USD! 2USD for 30 minutes of foot massage (where on Earth can you find this good massage service at such price? and my masseur was amazing.), bugs hunting (overcoming one of the biggest fears of my life - eating scorpion and tarantula, not that bad at all), souvenir shopping etc.
4. Cambodia Delicacies
I'm gonna talk about Cambodian food over here, yes you'll find a lot of interesting or strange food, some were horrible but some were amazing!
Good food
1. Fish Amok (Best food in Cambodia)
2. Fritters by the roadside is love
3. Beef soup (aka steamboat) on a rainy night, must try! (20000 Riel or 5.5USD was enough to feed 3 tummies :P)
4. Local dishes with rice (lotus soup, steamed minced pork, pineapple fried with pork, Chinese sausage etc)
5. Khmer noodle
Strange food
1. Bugs (fried scorpion, spider, cricket etc)
2. Unripe fruits (unripe banana was the worse food I've ever tried on Earth, but you gotta try and tell me how you feel)
3. Prahok (fermented fish paste)
4. Balut (fertilized duck embryo)
